Sleep Tip!

For a large number of dreamers dreams are just that, dreams. Yet, there are some people whose dreams are something more. They come to life, acting out their dream while in a sleeping state. This is known as REM Behavior Disorder (RBD) and can range in complex activities from talking, walking around, to hitting and punching. Should you/ your bed partner notice these things, it is best to seek treatment from your Primary Care Practitioner and make your bedroom as safe as possible by removing anything with a sharp corner.

Sleep Tip!

Are you having trouble getting your new child to sleep? A large amount of sleep is habit driven, set a schedule for you and your child that you can live with and stick to it. Use “Controlled Crying”. There is some debate on this topic, but you can decide with your partner if it is right for child. (http://www.heraldsun.com.au/leave-and-let-cry/story-fna7dq6e-1225692923010) This will teach your child to fall asleep on their own. Parents are told to let them cry for two, four, six, eight, and 10 and up to 20 minutes at a time, returning to comfort them briefly between each period.

Sleep Tip!

All you expecting mothers out there having trouble sleeping here are a few tips. Exercise regularly. This will improve circulation and minimize those pesky leg cramps at night; however, avoid exercising later in the day. During the third trimester, sleeping on your left side, this will improve blood flow to the fetus, uterus, and kidneys (always a good thing!) try to minimize the time spent flat on you back (supine). Support your body. Use body pillow (they even have special pregnancy body pillows). For comfort try positioning the pillow between your knees and under your belly. Nap. If you are not getting enough sleep at night try to find a quite spot to rest for a half-hour. Get help. If insomnia persists, seek advice from you PCP or your OBGYN.

scishow:

I would like to tell you some things about caffeine.

This is a really good explanation of how caffeine works. However, he does leave out how it alters your brain waves in sleep. Caffeine can have an affect on your sleep for up to 18hrs. This isn’t to say that you wouldn’t get to sleep, but the sleep architecture is altered and may leave you sleeping as if you need more sleep in the morning.

Sleep Tip!

Did you know when women are twice as likely as men to have difficulties falling asleep or staying asleep. Younger women have sounder sleep with fewer disturbances. Some women, however, are prone to sleep problems throughout their reproductive years.A number of factors may affect women’s sleep. Changes in hormonal levels, stress, illness, lifestyle, and sleep environment may impact sleep. Pregnancy- and menstrual-related hormonal fluctuations may affect sleep patterns, mood, and reaction to stress.
